Churchdown ABC - affected by cancer

A community self-help support group for patients, carers, relatives and friends

ABC Charity Logo

Based on a group started in Swindon, the Churchdown Affected By Cancer group sets out to provide opportunities for people affected by cancer to meet socially in friendly, relaxed surroundings.

We offer a warm welcome to everyone and seek to promote a culture where all people are valued and respected as individuals.

Whether you are the person with cancer, a family member, carer or friend, cancer affects everyone physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Many people find it helpful to talk to others with similar experiences and concerns.

Meetings

Our meetings are held in the Churchdown Community Centre » on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, from 10am till noon, when the Community Centre Bar opens until 2pm.

Listening

We offer support through our group meetings. We also have facilities for people to talk in smaller groups, or on a one to one basis.

Fundraising

Churchdown ABC is a self funding group. Our committee of volunteers and members raise funds for everything we do through raffles, donations and grants (our start up was funded by two donations).

Social Activity

As with any voluntary group, the social life comes from the wishes of those who attend. We envisage talks from health care professionals, music and healthy living suggestions, but mainly the building of community spirit and friendships.

Men's Support

We are aware that some men find it difficult to speak about health issues.

We have an area which can be set apart in the skittles alley for men, their carers, relatives and friends and an opportunity to meet in a positive, cordial and convivial atmosphere.

If you would like to see how we can help you, please come to one of our meetings. Enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, listen to any guest speaker, just sit and relax, and stay on when the bar opens. The choice is yours.
